A typical day includes a lot of music and a lot of fun.

A typical day at the Walla Walla Suzuki Institute may begin as early as 9 a.m. and end as late as 4 p.m. Each full-time student will have at least four hours of classes per day, which can include the following:

  • Master class (short, semi-private lesson shared with other students)
  • Technique or movement class (See note below)
  • Repertoire class in a large group
  • Orchestra — We offer three levels.
  • Optional elective classes (View Electives)
  • Evening recital and concert attendance

Each student is asked to play a polished piece as a solo at the first meeting of their master class — an opportunity for the teacher and student to get acquainted musically. No matter what the level of current study, the student should select a piece from the repertoire that he or she has repeatedly studied and played.

Our program is designed with the understanding that parents will be involved, as they are at home, with lessons, practice, and the general supervision of their children.

If a parent has multiple children in attendance, it is recommended to pair up with another master class parent who can take notes for your child as we understand you cannot be multiple places at one time.

Note: Students will be assigned to either a movement or technique class based on their age and playing level.

Register in two easy steps.

Step 1: Choose a camp from the offerings below based on your child's ability level.

Step 2: Add fun electives and add-ons like lunches and extra t-shirts for the family.

A note about orchestra placement:

Orchestral Debut is for students ages six and above with little to no prior reading experience. Students will be exposed to fundamental orchestral skills such as watching and responding to the conductor, basic note reading skills, rhythm games, dynamic explorations, and much more!

Intermediate Orchestra is intended for those students who have had some orchestral experience. Students will range from late-book 1 through book 3.

Advanced Orchestra is intended for students who have had previous orchestral experience. Violinists should be playing Book 4 and beyond. Violists and cellist should be in Book 3 and beyond. Bassists should be nearing Book 3 or comparable 3 year level.
